PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING FOR CHARITABLE STATUS
The first step in trying to register a charity is to apply for a PIN number. This PIN number allows you to create an account and subsequently fill out (and submit) an application form.
The Charities Regulator intends to launch a new online application system called 'MyAccount' by the end of July this year. If you have not applied for a PIN number before 18 July 2018 you will have to wait to apply through the new system. We suggest you come back to our new website in the first week of August to Sign Up to apply.
However, if you already have a PIN number, which you have not used, or you have started but not completed an application, you must complete and submit the application before 25 July 2018, otherwise you will need to reapply through the new system once launched.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Application for charitable status
To begin the registration process you need to apply for an account with us. We will then send you a letter containing security information; when you receive this letter you can create your account.
Once you have a charity account, you apply through this account to have your charity registered.
The steps are:
Step 1 - Apply for an account for your charity by using the button below. We will then send you security information to create your account.
Step 2 - Create your charity's account here. You will need the security information sent in our letter to you and you will need to specify a username (e-mail address) and password.
Step 3 - Login to your account to register your charity, or update your charity’s details here. You will need your charity's username (e-mail address) and password.
NB: If you are a school, or an existing charity with a CHY number prior to 16 October 2014, this section does not apply to you. Please refer to our guidance page and refer to the section that most applies to you here.
