How do we register?
Charitable organisations established before 16 October 2014 which did not hold a CHY number (charitable tax exemption) from the Revenue Commissioners were required to submit an application for inclusion on the Register of Charities by 16 April 2016. They can continue to fundraise and operate as a charity until a decision on their application is made.
Furthermore the Charities Regulator is currently developing a simplified application process for small charities that were in operation before the establishment of the Regulator on 16 October 2014.
If your charity was in existence before 16 October 2014, your gross annual income in your last reporting period was less than €10,000 and your gross annual income will remain below €10,000 for the foreseeable future, you can be included in the simplified application process by specifying that when applying for an account.
If this applies to your organisation and you have not yet submitted an application for inclusion on the Register you should do so immediately.
In order to submit an application for inclusion on the Register of Charities you must follow these steps:
- Apply online for a charity account with us.
- Once you receive your PIN number from us (by post), create your charity account online.
- Log in to your charity account, fill out the information regarding your organisation and submit your application.
Staff at the Charities Regulator will assess your application for charitable status and they will be in touch if they require any further information from you. You will receive an official letter from the Charities Regulator once a decision on your application for charitable status has been made.
Please note that due to the high volume of applications this process may take some time/up to six months.
